How this site is built

Recall Radar aggregates product-safety recall notices published by national regulators, normalises them into one record per physical product, and links the same product across jurisdictions.

Where the data comes from

Every record on this site originates in a notice published by a government safety regulator. Nothing is authored here. Each recall page links to the original notice so you can read the regulator's own wording. The full list of feeds is on the data sources page.

How records are normalised

Regulators publish in incompatible formats. A language model extracts structured fields — brand, model, identifiers, hazard, remedy, dates — from the notice text. It is used as a parser, not an author: it may only emit values present in the notice, and it is instructed to return nothing rather than guess.

Every extracted record is then validated in code before publication. Barcodes are checked against the GS1 check-digit algorithm, dates against a plausibility range, and categories against a fixed list. Records that fail any check are quarantined and never published.

Cross-jurisdiction linking

The same physical product is often recalled by several regulators under different reference numbers and slightly different names. Matching is done on barcode where one is printed, and otherwise on brand and model agreement. This linking is the part of the site that does not exist in any single regulator's database.

This is an information service. It reports what regulators have published. It does not certify compliance, does not constitute legal or safety advice, and is not a substitute for the regulator's own notice.
